Wrestling

Activity Overview

The wrestling program at St. Mary’s has a rich history beginning in 1969. Currently, there are elementary, middle school, and high school programs. The high school wrestling team has been highly successful in its competition in the Far East and Kanto Plain since its establishment. The wrestling program receives active support from the parents and wrestling alumni, and the team also has many connections with the Japanese schools, local club teams, and university wrestling teams. During season, the wrestling team competes in dual meets against the Kanto Plain schools for a Kanto League title, the Kanto Plain Wrestling championship, the Beast of the East Tournament, the Far East Wrestling tournament, and some more league and non-league tournaments. On top of tournaments, the program has season opening events, a luxurious award banquet at the end of season, yakiniku parties, fun events for parents, alumni, and the team, and many more.
Practices are extremely hard and almost every day but it is highly rewarding at the end of season. Wrestling is a sport that gives every youth a chance to shine and build many important life skills. It is a sport that has changed so many people’s lives. There are no tryouts or cuts, therefore anyone can join the team. Whether you are bad at sports, big or small, there’s always a place in wrestling because of weight classes and its fair nature of the sport. The St. Mary’s wrestling program is proud to say that it has one of the best training facility, equipment, and entourage in the league.
